Stable Nitrogen for Crop Nutrition

The calcium in Cal/Mag 5:1 minimises nitrogen loss that typically occurs through ammonia volatilisation when urea is applied. This is particularly important in sandy soils, where nitrate nitrogen leaches quickly.

The ammonia form of nitrogen in this product is far more stable, keeping nutrients where your crops can use them.

Reclaim Sodium-Affected Soils

Calcium has long been recognised as an important soil amendment. The highly soluble calcium in Cal/Mag 5:1 quickly removes harmful sodium salts from the root zone, leaving behind valuable calcium, magnesium and nitrogen to support rapid recovery and vigorous vegetative regrowth.

Magnesium: The Essential Catalyst

Magnesium is essential for chlorophyll formation and the chemical processes that drive plant growth. Without adequate magnesium, plants cannot convert sunlight and carbon dioxide into energy.

Low magnesium soils produce weak plants with small leaves, often with withered or burnt margins as the plant concentrates what little magnesium it has into the leaf centre to maintain photosynthesis.

Applying Cal/Mag 5:1 to soil and as a foliar spray increases leaf size significantly.

For pastures, doubling the width of grass leaves effectively doubles feed volume without increasing height, more nutrition for your livestock from the same paddock.

What do the roots do in the rhizosphere?

Plant roots release compounds known as root exudates, including sugars, carbohydrates, organic acids, proteins, and mucilage. These exudates act as chemical signals, shaping biological activity and influencing soil structure, nutrient availability, and plant survival.

Root exudates help plants to:

• Defend against pathogens by releasing antimicrobial compounds thatprotect roots.
• Select beneficial microbes by attracting or repelling specific microbial populations.
• Maintain moisture by increasing water retention around roots, reducing drying stress.
• Access nutrients by improving ion uptake and supporting beneficial organisms such as rhizobia and mycorrhizal fungi.
• Modify soil chemistry by locally adjusting pH and oxygen levels, improving nutrient availability.
• Stabilise soil structure by binding soil particles into aggregates around roots.
• Limit competition through chemical signalling (allelopathy) that suppresses competing plants.

What do living organisms do in the rhizosphere?

The steady supply of root exudates creates a highly active biological zone. Bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes, and other soil organisms compete for resources while performing critical functions.

• Interacting with plant roots, either beneficially, neutrally, or harmfully. Beneficial interactions include mycorrhizae, nitrogen fixation, and natural pathogen suppression.
